The headlines are beginning to sound repetitive once again - but now, the headlines are focusing on rising home sales instead of falling.
- National Home Sales: "Existing-home sales, which are completed transactions that include single-family, townhomes, condominiums and co-ops, rose 12.3 percent to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 5.28 million in December." - National Association of REALTORS
- Virginia Home Sales: "Fourth quarter figures showed an upward trend compared to the third quarter of 2010." - Virginia Association of REALTORS

And in the New River Valley, home sales are definitively on the upswing. Novemer and December of 2010 both ended with increases in home sales in the Roanoke/Lynchburg/Blacksburg area.

Still the total number of listings that went under contract from Dec. 1, 2010 - Jan. 3, 2011 in the New River Valley (Montgomery, Giles, Pulaski & Floyd Counties, plus Radford City) totalled only 21. (*New River Valley MLS)
From January 1, 2010 - Feb. 3, 2011, the number of listings that have gone under contract in the same local area has increased more than four-fold to 93. (*New River Valley MLS)
And sales prices are holding nearly steady in the region as well. The annual median sales price ($155,000) fell less than 2 percent from the 2009 median. (*From the Virginia Association of REALTORS)
